Michael climbed out of a swamp in rural Alaska smelling vaguely of gasoline and woodsmoke. He was raised by an arthritic moose named Älg and by age ten was a proficient lichen chewer and root forager. When a group of missionaries discovered young Michael licking salt off the highway near Trapper Creek, they took him in and began his instruction in mathematics, grammar, and the finer points of toileting. Fast forward many years, and he’s since graduated medical school, and now lives in Anchorage with his wife. In his spare time, he writes the occasional short story and has recently finished his first novel. He refuses to forget his humble origins, and to this day you may still find him nibbling on alder or styling his moostache.
